My BA Embroidery Final Project!!

I am asking for your help with my final project on my degree. It’s all about forming visual representations of collections and taking this through to design ideas after lots of drawing and investigating objects. I am trying to form an exciting and diverse collection by asking people from all over the world to send me objects in the post! It can be absolutely anything, the stranger the better! It does not have to relate to embroidery or textiles in any way.

The object(s) need to be:

·        small, no bigger than 10cm square.

·        old or used or with an exciting history

·        inexpensive – I unfortunately can’t send you money in return!

Please send your objects to:       Danielle Goodhand

                                                School of Art and Design

                                                Manchester Metropolitan University

                                                Cavendish Building

                                                Cavendish Street

                                                M15 6BG

Please remember to include your name, address and telephone number so I can send you something in return for helping me with forming my collection.

The project will be exhibited in the Embroidery degree show around June 2007, I will post the exact date as soon as I know!

The deadline is the end of May 2007 but the sooner the better really!!

Thanks so much for your help!!!!!!

posting a project on behalf of The Man From Icon...
a project from...

minimalism on the streets!****************

“Anyone can make a monochrome. Most of us probably have made one at some time or another, although we wouldn’t necessarily have recognised it. And we wouldn’t necessarily need to have made one, as most of the time we are already surrounded by ready-made monochromes of various shapes and sizes. The world is full of unintended, sometimes accidental, often temporary, and mostly unnoticed monochromes…Every city is a museum of the inadvertent monochrome”
David Batchelor, In bed with the monochrome.
From an Aesthetic point of view, Philosophy, Art and the Senses.
Edited by Peter Osborne. Serpent’s Tail, 2000

Send me a photo of found, ready-made monochrome from your city, town or village, along with details or where and when you found it plus any miscellaneous details you think are interesting. It could be an unused, painted over or papered over billboard or sign, side of a truck, fence round a construction site, side of a building, anything, any colour. The only rule is that you can’t have made it yourself.

send real stuff to
the man from icon, flat 3, 56 brunswick road, hove, bn3 1dh, uk
send digital stuff to
deadline: 30th june 2007 || download pdf of details here || documentation to all

SOURGRAPES: Calling all D.I.Y. kids!
Hi there,
My name is Sam. I help run a zine called SOURGRAPES ZINE. We're a local zine based in Lexington KY. We focus on teaching kids about D.I.Y. ethics, being posi, and why its important to support local art and music.
I wanted to write not only to introduce our zine to the livejournal zine world! But also to explain our predicament. You see, after a lot of pulling out hair and craziness we've decided to hire on a full-time zine team. We used to be submission based but it was pretty hard on our (then) small team.
So now we're looking for like minded zinesters and punks who support self publication, D.I.Y. ethics, posi beliefs, and who are interested in having some fun creating a great zine and keeping the underground press alive!

We're looking for:

- Columnists
- Interviewers
- Record reviewer **
- Zine reviewers **
- D.I.Y. guide writers **
- Survival guide writers **
- Bike Repair guide writers **
- Cover artists (for upcoming covers)
- Photographers
- Cartoonists (full-time strip)
- Proof readers **
- Printers
- + more!

If you think you could help us out or would like to become apart of our team, we'd love to have you! Write us at SOURGRAPESZINE@GMAIL.COM or through our myspace: http://myspace.com/sourgrapeszine
Once again we are looking for FULL TIME writers/artists (which means we will be interested in your submissions for each issue) were poor and cant pay you but we can offer free ad space, zine copies, zine reviews, and whatever Sam can knit you!

intro to margeaux.......
hey everyone. my name's margeaux and i'm a 25/f/bi/goth/pagan chick living on the coast of maine with my boyfriend of 8 years, our 6-year old daughter and a menagerie of exotic pets. i'm an artist/snake breeder/ghost hunter.

you can see a fairly long list of my interests on my profile page. i could list them all over again here, but that would be pretty redundant. (like they won't be listed again in my intro letter. lol)

i'd mostly like to hear from other bi, bi-curious, goth or pagan girls, preferably in the u.s. or canada, at the moment. it's a plus if you have kids, but i don't discriminate against the child-free.;-) i prefer pals that are into long letters and really getting to know their pals as friends. personally, i tend to write extremely long, rambling, letters and send lots of photos.

if it matters to you, i nearly always handwrite my letters, but some (including my intro usually) will be typed. i have some muscle/nerve/joint problems that affect my hands at times and make it impossible to use a pen, especially for 20+ pages, which is the norm for me.

i'm also looking for new fb and xxx fb swappers. i'm getting back into them after a long hiatus. i enjoy swapping them in bulk. i also swap slams. i'm taking a break from decos for now, but i also like to swap movies, music, books, clothes, pretty much anything mail-able.

my life can be pretty hectic and i'm pretty quirky & surrounded by complete wackos, so i always have interesting stories to tell.

feel free to say hi and ask me anything; i'm an open book.

I normally wouldn’t do this, but I really need your help. I am starting my first book (on the Tarot) and I really need to get my own laptop, ASAP! A friend of mine put me on to this site which I thought was a scam, until he actually received his laptop. All it costs is $1.00 and you will be helping me out immensely!

I need another 14 people to sign up and spend $1.00 by completing a special offer. Even if you don’t want to find 20 to earn your own laptop, if you could still sign up to help me out, then I would be ever so grateful!

I don’t have a lot of cash at the moment, here is a list of what I can do for / send to you ♥

• Something from your list that I could gather up and send in an envelope
• Brand New Hello Kitty Button Badges (I have stacks of designs!)
• Sadness – An independent comic that I wrote, drew and self published
• Haunted Tasmania – Self Published, Independent Magazine
• Hand Made Jewellery – Beads, Shells, Wood, I can make just about anything!
• Hand Made DIY Mini Spell Kit – In either Love or Money
• Tarot Reading via Email
• Reiki Distant Healing & Psychic Reading
• Almont anything that you can fit into an envelope –eg, post cards, business cards, sticker, button badges, etc

Not sounding like a meanie, but I can only send your parcel once I have received notification that you have completed an offer.

Please, please, PLEASE help me out. All it will cost you is $1.00 and I’ll make sure that I send you an envelope full of joy ♥ ♥ ♥

PLEASE COMMENT FOR AND MORE DETAILS (you know, the blah stuff…)

x cross posted x

Hi all,, i just joined this community and found you via the mailart LJ community.
I am just beginning with my first mail art project and maybe some of you would be interested....
i will take part any anybody else's mail art project to return the favour :o)

summary of the project: I LOVE MY CITY

We all have a personal identity with the city in which we live in or near too, weather its a favourite building, street or landmark, personal or unique experience, memory or event, or it's just that we have a love of where we grew up and each individual as their own social history with their home city.

To investigate this further I am calling for people to send me a personal visual representation of their home city in any medium through the post. This could include:
Found object
List of words
.....anything goes.

Each item that is sent to me will appear in an exhibition in February 2007 in Salford, England. Each persons name and location will appear next to the sent work.

If you would like to take part in this project by sending me an item please e-mail artyrach@hotmail.com for my postal address.
If you would like to send an item that you think will cost a lot to send i can pay you back for the postage once the item has arrived.

Thank you and i hope to hear from you.
